The day before ADTOI established a new chapter in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, its leadership met West Bengal members in Kolkata. The 9 January 2025 gathering at Cygnett Siamton Inn was chaired by chapter leader Sandipan Ghosh and attended by President Ved Khanna with a delegation from the national managing committee. Its substance was regional tourism, cooperation and the growing role of technology in how travel is sold.
A chapter meeting with its own local agenda
Chapter Secretary Debashis Chakraborty and Treasurer Rajesh Kumar Saraf joined Ghosh, while Vice President Ashish Sehgal and committee members Atul Singh and Vinay Ahuja represented the national association alongside Khanna. The discussion gave Kolkata’s trade an opportunity to raise the practical concerns of a diverse destination market.
West Bengal is not one tourism product. Kolkata city breaks, heritage properties, the Sundarbans, Darjeeling’s hills and the state’s religious and cultural calendar call for different suppliers and traveller advice. ADTOI’s local structure matters when sellers elsewhere in India can access sound region-specific information.
Khanna’s West Bengal engagement in context
Khanna’s address stressed the state’s potential and the need for collective promotion. The technology discussion added a contemporary dimension: an itinerary is easier to sell when its local content, transport assumptions and customer information can move reliably between partners.
West Bengal’s operators are part of a geographically diverse state, making member-led destination intelligence particularly useful. The local chapter can add depth to national marketing in a way an undifferentiated “Bengal tour” campaign cannot.
The value of an active regional chapter
The Kolkata appearance is a useful marker of his early presidency—a working chapter visit between formal national meetings and a major island chapter launch.
Industry experience and travel enterprise
Alongside his national association responsibilities, Ved Khanna is identified in ADTOI’s member directory as Managing Director of Tourwala Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., a Delhi-based domestic travel company. His experience in selling real journeys helps explain the commercial questions raised by destination promotion: access, dependable local partners, accurate itineraries and traveller expectations. The work described above was undertaken in his ADTOI capacity; it was not a government appointment or exclusive commercial assignment for Tourwala. Read more about his travel ventures.
