Tripura did not ask the travel trade merely to admire photographs of its attractions. At the National Travel Mart organised in Agartala during the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest of December 2024, approximately eighty representatives from sixteen states took part in business discussions with local tourism stakeholders. ADTOI President Ved Khanna joined a programme built around a practical proposition: destinations become stronger when tour operators understand how to sell them responsibly.

The Chief Minister’s message and the trade floor

The B2B interaction held at Gitanjali Tourist Home on 14 December was attended by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. Accounts published in the state describe improved road, rail and air connectivity as a central plank of the tourism development message. The larger Promo Fest involved public showcases around Narikel Kunja and Dumboor Lake, with cultural programmes and events across the state.

The trade mission introduced the sort of diversity that tends to disappear when the Northeast is marketed as a single generic region: royal and archaeological heritage, lake landscapes, indigenous cultural experiences, temples and lesser-travelled circuits. For participating sellers, these were starting points for real itinerary planning, not proof that packages had already gone on sale.

The details of the 14 December interaction matter. The Chief Minister attended the National Travel Mart at Gitanjali Tourist Home, where representatives from sixteen states took part in trade discussions. The tourism minister’s wider programme promoted cultural and natural experiences, while press coverage referred to the state’s transport connectivity and aspirations to strengthen the visitor economy. These are separate elements of the same strategy: build the product, make it accessible, and show it to people who can sell it.

For Tripura, the commercial challenge is not limited to awareness. Tour operators must answer questions about gateway cities, the time needed to see lake and heritage attractions, accommodation beyond the capital, and how culture can be presented respectfully. ADTOI’s trade network can potentially help close that gap through supplier introductions and firsthand understanding rather than marketing slogans alone.

Why Ved Khanna backed Tripura’s trade exposure

Khanna’s reported comments focused on promoting Tripura’s distinct experiences to travellers in other Indian markets. His value at the event lay in representing the operators who must translate destination promotion into accurate schedules, supplier contracts, realistic travel times and informed customer expectations.

The most useful follow-up from an exposure programme is the precision of the itineraries that emerge: how many nights make sense, which attractions fit on one route, which cultural experiences need local guidance and which suppliers are ready to serve travellers consistently.

Taking a destination out of the brochure

The distinction between a state tourism festival and the ADTOI travel-mart component is important. The festival began earlier in December; the association’s trade activity belongs to the mid-December programme. The record supports Khanna’s national representative role without inventing a private audience with the Chief Minister.

Industry experience and travel enterprise

Alongside his national association responsibilities, Ved Khanna is identified in ADTOI’s member directory as Managing Director of Tourwala Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., a Delhi-based domestic travel company. His experience in selling real journeys helps explain the commercial questions raised by destination promotion: access, dependable local partners, accurate itineraries and traveller expectations. The work described above was undertaken in his ADTOI capacity; it was not a government appointment or exclusive commercial assignment for Tourwala. Read more about his travel ventures.
